While there are endless things to do within the Belgrade and Bozeman area, from mom and pop coffee shops, to boutiques, to getting outdoors, there’s something to be said for taking the occasional trip out of town. Just in a 2-3 hour drive range, there are loads of exciting things to do and see. And while there are many things to trek around and see, there are also various people who day trip to Belgrade and Bozeman for what you can do while you are here in town.

Montana is wildly proud of its remote nature. As a result, there are great opportunities to get out and about, whether it’s a short trek, a short drive, or just outside your door. All you need to know is where to look. That’s why today we’re taking a look at five fabulous day trips you can make from Prescott Ranch right here in Belgrade. Let’s hit it.

View Yellowstone National Park

People come from all over the world to view one of the nation’s greatest treasures, but for the lucky Montanan, it sits right in their backyard. Just a two-hour drive from the Prescott Ranch neighborhood, you could reach the West Yellowstone entrance before breakfast if you so choose. Once inside the park, the natural wonders that are awaiting you abound. Take a dip in the boiling river, where ice-cold water and boiling hot geyser water blend together to form a perfect natural hot spring. Head over to Old Faithful to see one of the country’s oldest attractions, or simply view the incredible wildlife.

Ski Big Sky

Big Sky, Montana awaits you just an hour outside of town. The drive itself is a sight to behold; as it winds through the canyon, where rockfaces soar from one side of the road, and the Gallatin River twists along the other. The quaint town may seem small, but the skiing is anything but. Big Sky is home to some of the countries biggest skiing, with nearly 6,000 acres of skiable land and 38 different lifts. Finish the day out with a beer at one of the local breweries around, or grab a bite to eat at one of the many resort restaurants.

Soak Up Montana Hot Springs

When it comes to hot springs to choose from in Montana, you’ve got more options than you’ll know what to do with. You have a wide variety of options, from casual, to upscale, to structured, and wild. We’ve already mentioned the Boiling River, but if you’re looking for something with a few more accommodations, consider heading towards Butte to Fairmont. The hotel is home to a natural hot spring complete with order out food and an outdoor bar (Pina Coladas abound). For something a little more upscale with sweeping views of the surrounding wildlife, head to Yellowstone Hot Springs.

Raft the Gallatin

Once the winter weather subsides a bit, do yourself a favor and sign yourself and the family or friends up for a white-water rafting trip down the Gallatin. Because it’s not a dam-released river, the flows depend largely on the natural factors like snowpack, spring melt, and more. Peak water levels hit around mid-June, but if you’re looking for warmer temperatures, consider waiting till July and even August. When given the option to take the Mad Mile near the end of the river, we highly recommend giving it a go—you won’t regret it!

Relax at Cliff and Wade Lake

This one is one of those great local gems that doesn’t pop up on your radar unless you know the area. If you were to Google things to do in Montana, you wouldn’t find this one on any TripAdvisor list. Don’t get us wrong, it’s a favorite with the locals, but even on it’s more crowded days, this beauty is worth it. Located about two hours outside of town, Cliff and Wade have been referred to as the Caribbean of the north and for a good reason. Rent paddleboards and canoes nearby or bring the tent in case you decide to set up shop for the night!
