Prescott Breweries | Belgrade’s Best Breweries

Beer lovers, rejoice! Belgrade, Montana, is the place for craft brews, with three breweries nearby (not to mention all of the spots in Bozeman). Montana has a long brewing history, dating back to the early days of settlers in the Wild West. Fortunately, the tradition continues today, since the state ranks second in the nation for the number of breweries per capita. Here are the places to celebrate malt and hops as you make your home in Belgrade.

Madison River Brewing – Belgrade, MT

At Madison River Brewing, you can appreciate the fly fishing lifestyle with a healthy river aesthetic at play in everything from branding to decor. The Madison River (this brewery’s namesake) is known for being one of the best spots for fly fishing in the world. And for hardcore fly fishers, there’s no better way to end a day on the river with a stop at the brewery.

Here, they’ve been serving Belgrade since 2004, and you can taste the expertise and care that goes into every sip and pint. Salmon Fly Honey Rye is the brewery’s flagship beer, but you can’t go wrong with anything that makes it onto their menu, featuring classics alongside rotators. Fortunately, they sell bottles and fill growlers, too, so you don’t have to wait until you’re off the river to enjoy.

406 Brewing – Manhattan, Montana

406 Brewing is technically in neighboring Manhattan, Montana, but we’ll let that slide since they’re so close, and their beer is just that good. Their offerings are always changing, rotating to exchange palate-pleasers for new favorites as the seasons shift. Their menu tends to focus on British- and American-style lagers, with an emphasis on flavor over alcohol content.

Inside the taproom, the work of local artists graces the walls. The folks here have done their utmost to highlight Montana heritage implicit in their 406 name, which you’ll see in the benches made from the old beams from Lehrkind’s Bozeman Brewery—which closed down in 1918 during Prohibition—or in the old mill saw blade wedged a corner of the bar.

Bar3 BBQ – One Pride Brewing

One Pride Brewing has its home at Bar3 BBQ, which is good news for anyone who can’t resist combining icy beers with smoking hot barbeque. You’ll love their Scotch Ale, Last Chair Winter Witbier, or Bomber Espresso Stout after a day at the ski hill. For warmer weather (or any time), there’s the Lemongrass White IPA or the Nunatak Vienna Lager. And since Bar3 is a full brewery, not just a restaurant that serves beer, you can get your growlers filled too.

The atmosphere is relaxed with a definite farm feel. Outside, the building is that Montana standard of wood siding and feed trough planters, with the vintage green truck, parked proudly on the curb, shouting out specials from the signboard in the bed. Just glancing at the menu will make your stomach rumble, with all the classic BBQ from mac n’ cheese to pulled pork and wings. You can even order party packages for game day festivities, and get enough food to feed an army back at home.
